Since it is Remembrance Day,I will start with that. I am proud to have family who have fought for us. I feel it is important to pay my respects to those who have, and still do, risk their lives for our freedom.
I do wonder though, what will I tell my daughter?
It is inevitable that she will one day ask my why we still have troops fighting, and what they are fighting about. She is not old enough to remember 9-11. I can teach her that they are protecting us, and I will be sure to explain our peace keeping missions. I can only hope that will be enough for her. It will be hard either way, to explain to my child who I tell not to use violence, why we are sending people over seas armed with weapons.
This is my way of remembering: I hope that one day it will be a day just to remember those who fought, not those who are fighting. I hope we will be explaining to our children things that ended years ago, not what is happening now. And I hope that our soldiers come home safe.
