I'm not sure how, but it is now time to pick a kindergarten. I know that usually when I write on something like this I have suggestions or have researched what to look for; I'm sorry, this time I just dont' know.
Shared custody? It just gets harder.
You think if you live close to a school it helps. Well apparently it doesn't. When the school closest to you is one you don't personally like, for whatever reason, you are then faced with the choice of putting them there anyway because it's close, or taking them to a school you DO like, but having to get them there somehow, and then get them home again.
I guess you are wondering what is to like about one school over another, so I'll tell you my most important factors
(1) teachers. They can change schools though, so there's no gaurantee, but if they seem happy at the school it is likely well run and they will be able to teach your children with less political drama. (2) admin staff. These are less likely to change, when you call the school for any reason for the next 7-13 years, these are the people you will be talking to. They have to track absenses, allergies, contact numbers, etc. This is your first contact and they will be more involved in your life then you expect.
(3) location. Clearly you want a clean school as close to you as possible but also in a safe and quiet area of town.

Not all schools can have everything, but you can find the right mix for you. If your child is more academic and trips when walking, maybe a great PE program isn't as important as great test scores. You can research each online.
(5) test scores. You can check each schools rating online, the sites are different for the country/province/state/ etc. Try google or ask around to find a realiable resource and rating system. Look for the best results in the areas most important to you.
Other then that, create your own criteria, involve your children at least a little (if they li
