We are empowered women!! We are MOMS! We can do anything!!
Yes. Yes we CAN. There are things though that I don't WANT to do and therefore, I DON'T.
As a mom I am doing things all day. Lots of things I don't want too. I don't want to clean a litter box, but I do. I don't want to do 3 loads of laundry, but I will (actually, laundry is one of my favourite chores, put it in the machine, hit start, and have a coffee...). I don't want to clean up the milk all over the floor that no one told me about until I stepped in it, but I have too.
So I feel that I am justified in NOT doing some things. Like mowing the lawn. I don't like to do it. It is loud and hot and boring. So I don't. I probably CAN change the oil in my car, I've done harder things with a vehicle, but I don't WANT too, and there are people you can pay for that so...why should I do it myself? I mean, yes, it would save money, but I could be scrubbing my floors instead.
Make homemade pizza crust? No thanks. Buns? Sure! The difference? About 2 hours of my day.
Go to the park in 30 degree weather? Heck no! Go to the library 6 days a week? If I must :)
Hand wash the hand washables? Not likely. Hand make hamburger patties? Absolutely!
Wash the siding on the house? Nope. I will wash the windows though.
I have pumped my own gas, washed my car, installed air conditioners in my windows, racked the yard, and painted. I take out the garbage, wash the walls and floors, steam the carpets and iron the laundry. I vacuum and polish, sweep and mop, shovel snow and return recycling. Grocerey shopping? Kid drop offs? Pick ups? I'm also responsible for registrations (sooo many of them every year!!) maintenance on the car, keeping insurance and registrations and addresses and bills up to date. Do I really need more to do?
We are already busy enough. By noon I've already cooked and cleaned up after two meals and a snack, probably done a load of laundry and/or dishes, and I know that when it snows I will have to shovel. I think that all the things I DO gives me a little bit of "I don't want too" and that should allow me, if only once in a while, to NOT. Now these are not things I can't do, they are not things I am to lazy or unintelligent to do, but simply things I don't feel like doing, I have no interest in doing, or I find just plain time consuming or silly. After all, as Super?Mom I can do almost anything!! (That eat a whole meal in a minute thing still has me stumped...)
I encourage you to make your own "I won't do that" list and stick to it! It's empowering and feels wonderful to have just a few less things on your list.
