It's garage sale season! I am a big fan of the garage sale, I've had some great finds, but there are some things that I just won't buy used.
Carseat: too much is unknown, and they do wear with age. For safety I went new
Crib: rules change so often now that it can be hard to keep up. Once any piece of furniture has been taken apart and put back together there's the chance it won't be as strong, and you have no idea what happened to that one or how many times the owners moved. Plus you'd have to check all the recalls. I suggest buying used only from a close friend or someone you trust.
Under garments: as a grown up its a health issue, for kids it's more of an ick issue. I just don't like it...and yes, that's my reason.
Bathing suits past diaper stage.
Jeans: unless you can try them on they may not fit your tushie as well as you'd like. They have been worn and shaped to their original owner. On the other side of that, if you can try them and find a pair that for well they are a great find! Already broken in and comfy
Cell phones: I know that a used cell phone could save a lot of money, I paid less for a car back when then it would cost to replace my current phone, but if they didn't call and release the phone then it can't be activated, and unles it's a friend or family member you don't know if it's been stolen, misused, or has water damage. Make sure you are able to turn on any phone you are considering, though I'm not sure how to check the other issues... This occurred to me only after I heard of problems, I was actually looking for a second hand one myself until then
