Have you ever had a minute where you've thought about what just happend, or what you are about to do, and gone "well that was a bad mommy moment"?
I do it ALL the time. It can be anything from getting annoyed when I shouldn't, almost forgetting to buckle the carseat (as soon as I move that gear shifter I have to double check...) or letting donuts be breakfast. These are sometimes silly things that don't matter much in the course of the day, or they can be day changing things. If I get mad over something silly, maybe it doesn't just go away quickly, maybe everyone is frustrated the rest of the day. If I do forget that seatbelt then terrible things could happen. Sometimes the silliest mistakes can have consequenses that last hours or days, even more.
What do you do when you have a bad mommy moment? I admit that I made a mistake, or (such as in the case of the donuts) I just let it go as a normal part of the day. I'm far from perfect, and everyone may as well know it right from the start!
Then there are the almost bad mommy moments. This is when I slow down enough to think it through. Sometimes things can be avoided this way, sometimes it makes it worse. Occasionaly I feel like I'm about to do something "bad mommy"ish, but I don't alway see a way around it.
Life is hard. It's tough to juggle everything. At what point is it ok to say enough? It's been a long enough week, stay home today. Activities can wait. It's ok to miss dance/music/school when you've just had enough. Does that teach them to prioritise? That sometimes you come first, and other things can wait? Or does it teach them to avoid things and that responsibility doesn't matter? When is it ok to let breakfast be something not breakfast like? Or to have breakfast in bed?
It doesn't make me a bad mommy to ask these questions, or to skip out just once in a while. It would if I did it all the time, but at some point we all need to realize that sometimes enough really is just enough. If you are on the verge of being sick, a day home could stop it before you end up in bed for a whole week. If you are exhausted then rest is most important. If you want to do something special, it's ok to cancel little things to save time and money for the bigger things (ie it's ok to miss one day of meeting a friend an hour away to put the time and gas money towards planning your birthday with that friend AND all your other friends too!) and it's acceptable, just sometimes, to eat in bed or sleep in. Life is all about balance, and better to learn it now then struggle with it for years to come.
Of course this is all just my opinion. You all have your own, and are welcome to share it with us. Pleas be respectful and poi
